I am finding that out... I've worked 22 years with a company. "We have a pension, it's great." Found out yesterday, that due to all the decisions made about our wonderful pension, those 80 hour weeks as a salaried employee, those years of busting it to support what we do, is worth $633 bucks a month, $711 if I wait four more years...... The last time I ran the numbers it was closer to 2500 per month in four years... I don't know what changed.
Just a few years from 60, and I feel betrayed. Well, other men have started over later in life than this. It's not that rare. Mindset has to change, and work needs to be done. Might have some hard decisions to make as well. I hope I can maintain this mindset that came to me at 0400 this morning.
Oof STxAr, that is a punch in the gut. I know pensions have been disappearing and doing not so well, but it is always theoretical until it is personal. That would be a terrible things, especially if you were making plans on the money being there.
If there is anything to say is good in the situation (besides your attitude), at least you found out now (instead of right when you went to retire).
Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
