Gone Hiking July 2022 Edition: Sitting On A Rock By The Bay

Following the first day of our hike, The Outdoors set out to the lake about 100 yards from our campsite to fish.  I went along - but having no fishing pole, sat down on a rock to watch.  As I on the rock, I started looking around - and found a whole set of landscapes, merely by changing my position.

A sort of moss overgrowing a rock - if you look right at the darker section, you can see a gap:

All of this which I saw from just shifting my perspective from the same rock.  How often, I wondered, do I miss these sorts of things in real life as I do not just take the time to look from different angles from the same position?

 Bonus Photo:  The contemplation of the scenery came with a lovely after event:  fresh trout.

  1. Except for the trout, this series has reminded me of a hike I took years and years ago. The scenery is priceless!

    Eating fish at water's edge always has a better taste I think. Though having all of the ingredients at hand often doesn't happen when camping out. A little pepper, some lemon juice (all via condiment packages for convenience) sprinkled on hot flaky flesh and you are good to go.

    1. It has literally been decades since I had fresh trout. Once upon a time, we would go to my grandparent's cabin in Montana and stay for two weeks at a time. Fresh trout every night.

      The lemon juice is a great suggestion! I will add it to our preparations.

  3. So you were able to eat some fresh trout despite not having a pole. I once watch a man gill tickle a huge trout that he pulled up on land and proceeded to clean for his evening supper in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. I was so impressed.

    1. Ed, I am lucky in that I did not bring a pole (I do not even have a license here) but The Outdoorsman does. That said, it may be something I look into again. The trout were delicious.

    Grandma was especially fond of fresh trout, 6-8" long or so- gut them, dust them with flour and cornmeal, and fry light brown , flipping them once in the skillet. Crispy skin, and the bones all pull out at once.
    Yum.
