So I have to apologize for the rather awkward commenting of late. Apparently Google in their infinite wisdom "fixed" a problem that never existed and as a result, I cannot comment my own blog (or others). I It frustrates me to no end.
I have tried the recommended suggestion of clearing out my "cookies", but only seem to have managed to lock myself out of my browser (Brave) access to my blog to the point I may have de-install and re-install the browser. At the moment I am going through an incognito window with "Shields" down; I will post them back up and then close the window.
(I also tried on Microsoft Edge with no better results - which actually made me feel a bit better. Trying to avoid the conglomerates.)
For the interim I have put commenting in a pop-out window to at least allow people to comment. I do not like the fact one cannot "reply", but that seems to be my only option.
My sincere apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience as I try to work through this.
I still have not seen mention of this on any official site yet which doesn’t make me hopeful of a solution soon. With other aspects of my life I try to avoid domineering brands but I don’t do so with my computer software. There I want something used by masses so that there is incentive to get things fixed ASAP.
ReplyDeleteGood luck TB.
ReplyDeleteI just found an explanation about why this affects certain people commenting on blogs with embedded comments and posted it on my blog. Essentially embedded comments require third party cookies so you need to make sure Brave is accepting them.
ReplyDeleteEd - It does not make me hopeful either. I did find out about it through OldAF Sarge, so apparently it is "known".
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit of a split for me - your point is very well taken in that major brands tend to get fixed quicker (although the issue with Microsoft Edge did surprise me). At the same time, I struggle with what those companies have come to represent.
Thank you Nylon12. By "Luck", I assume we mean I find another platform or miraculously Brave figures it out. Certainly with my limited technical skills this is bound never to happen.
ReplyDeleteWe're with you. Be not alarmed by minor tech glitches.
ReplyDeleteThanks John. Honestly, it is surprising how much a rather insignificant inconvenience messes with my mind. It really just annoys the heck out of me. Ah well, this too shall pass.
ReplyDeleteHappening on a lot of blogs,TB. As for comments, you have to click in the area of "comment to this" or however it is worded, I believe.
ReplyDeleteYou all be safe and God bless.
Thanks Linda - I think lots of people are going this way because the actual solution does not seem to work - for example, in my browser (Brave) the solution to allow only cross-site cookies is not even available. It is aggravating.
ReplyDeleteYou could create a new profile in Brave and see if that works. The new profile will have the Brave default settings instead of any custom settings that could be interfering with your blogger account.
ReplyDelete"Create new profile" is the first item in the third section of the Brave menu. I would expect that if logging in using the new profile did not fix the commenting issue, reinstalling the browser won't either. Hope this is helpful.
Jim R - Thank you so very much! I had no idea you could even make a profile in Brave (shows you how inept I am at technical things). I will definitely try it!
ReplyDeleteOh no! TB, somehow my blog has missed some of the most frustrating things other Blogger bloggers have experienced in recent years and months. This pop-up window style of commenting isn't my favorite, but if it works and makes commenting on your blog possible, I'll not complain. Sincerely hoping my blog isn't a sitting duck for frustrating changes... I'm sure it's only a matter of time, but still I hope.
ReplyDeleteBecki - I had seen that other bloggers had gone to this style and did not know why. I had avoided whatever the change was for some time, but apparently I have been found out at this point.
ReplyDeleteWhat is bothersome is that even if I get it figured out on my end and go back to in-comment commenting, it does not work for everyone. May explain why a number of people comment anonymously now.
