6) Form can be as importance as substance.

More All I Needed To Know I Learned from the Highland Games
1) Competing is as much about showing up as it is about being good.
2) Get a heavy enough implement that requires some technique and the old and young are on a level playing field.
3) Be prepared for change on short notice. Just because you've always thrown with a lighter stone doesn't mean that a heavier stone won't suddenly be used.
4) If people say a caber may be coming your way and may hit you, best to listen and be prepared.
5) Be ready. The Ready and Willing need only the slightest of instruction to throw far.
6) Momentum is key. The right momentum allows a weight to sail with ease. The wrong momentum just makes for an embarassing throw.
7) Many people are willing to throw. Few people are willing to go behind and make sure everything is out of the way.
8) Don't try and catch a rolling stone with your ankle.
9) World records can be set anywhere. You just need to be ready and looking for it.
10) There's always someone who will be the smallest competitor on the field throwing the most of the his body weight. Be that person if you have to.

All I Needed to Know I Learned in the Highland Games
1) If you're trying, you're going to get scraped and bleed. It's just how it is. Keep going.
2) Prepare. Always wear something under you're kilt - you never know when momentum will take you down.
3) Sometimes the reward for doing something is doing the same thing, only with a heavier weight.
4) Kilts really are appropriate for any occasion.
5) When doing something, you will be most successful if using all of yourself. You cannot just muscle a weight to throw it; it takes your whole body.
6) It's about the competition, but it's just as much about encouraging those competing with you.
7) When heavy things start to fall, best to be out of the way.
8) Most often, the reason we can't do things is because we believe we can't do them. Try, and amaze yourself.
9) Balance - in caber and with life - is key.
10) There are only two groups: competitors and spectators. Be a competitor.

7) Lives drift apart, no matter the best intentions.
8) Children grow up faster than you realize.

6) The best leader is the one both experienced and wise.

All I Needed to Know About Life I Learned From The Seven Samurai
- Use what you have to get what you need. If all you have is rice, get hungry samurai.
- If you hire a samurai for their experience and expertise, respect their opinion when they give it.
- Inner character is more important than skill. Inner character will sustain you when the battle is going badly.
- If you have an inner conflict, you need to talk to someone about it. It eventually will kill someone, just maybe not you.
- Even the odds whenever possible. If you have swords and they have muskets, get the muskets.
- If you only act like a farmer, you'll become a farmer in your mind, unable to think of defending yourself. With the right attitude, a farmer can become a samurai.
- Sometimes you have to surrender some houses to defend the village.
- Always remember where your food comes from. A samurai without rice will not be a samurai for long.
- Remember there are two sides to every story. If villagers hunt down samurai, it may be because the samurai mistreat them.
- Generally speaking, it is better to be honest about things. If you try and hide your daughter as a son, she will find a way to date a samurai anyway, and you'll only look foolish for trying.
- Evil always needs to be confronted, in whatever form. If you don't confront it, it will steal your rice and barley and leave you starving.
- There are things worth fighting for. Words may solve a lot of interpersonal conflicts, but bandits were never driven away with words.
