There are a few walking around that need to be tried, put in a cage, and it has to be done publicly so people can see justice being done. You can’t run a country like this. We have the same problem in Canada...
Errmmm... may I ask why you posted this, TB? Yours is usually a voice of moderation and restraint in matters political. For you to speak of hanging politicos - while entirely admirable - seems out of character for you.
Two reasons Glen. The first is that I love GK Chesterson and that it is a great quote. The second is that I really think that politics should be local; the issue always comes when individuals thousands of miles away make laws for people and situations they neither understand nor care about.
That said, I think that most politicians take the population for granted except at election time. A little fear might not be a bad thing...
I've long admired GKC...and HL Mencken, though they're almost polar opposites. And I've been saying since I was a kid that anyone who WANTS to be POTUS is sick, and therefore not qualified. Washington didn't want the job, and couldn't wait to retire from it, but he saw it as a duty to his country. Trump is in a category of one. Does he really want the job? I think he enjoys what he does with it, and he definitely has long range goals, but he also knows what it costs him in all respects. His stamina is phenomenal.
Greg, I am slowly becoming familiar with Chesterton through quotes. His facile use of words is a marvel. Even less familiar with Mencken, But perhaps I will start to give him a try. I am slowly running out of books for my other favorite authors.
It is an old saying which I am sure is put more succinctly somewhere else: anyone who says they want to be in a position of power should not be in a position of power. You have hit the nail precisely on the head. It is meant to be a thing of service, not of making yourself great and expanding your vision for the world.
Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
Yup.
