After our time in Kapadokya (the second longest place we "stayed" after Istanbul), it was time to head out to our next destination, Ankara.
A final rest stop with what I have come to associate with typical Kapadokyan rocks and views:
Once we left the region, the area turned to the flat plains surrounded by mountains we had seen on our trip to Kapadokya:
Not many scenic stops, but plenty of great scenery.
Talk about your wide open wind-swept spaces TB, those first two photos.....now I know where the Coneheads (couldn't help it too much SNL anniversary over weekend) came from.....:)
ReplyDeleteNylon12, I can honestly say I never seen anything like this sort of landscape in my entire life. Even if you had shown me pictures, it would not have had the impact of seeing it in person.
DeleteTurkey has such varied features and landscapes. I'm glad your tour let you see so much of it. I never knew it was such a fascinating country.
ReplyDeleteLeigh, I was genuinely surprised as well. My previous "geography" of Turkey was largely Istanbul, some coast, and a nebulous "interior plateau" that I had read of but never really seen.
DeleteIt is hard to rate places I have been - they are all unique and great in their own way - but Turkey is definitely near the top.
There is something magical and mysterious about all these formations in Turkey. Did you know they found Noah's Ark on Mt. Judi, they say?
ReplyDeleteMt Judi is one of the mountains of Ararat
