While we technically are in the 12 days of Christmas, the sense of Christmas fades a little bit with every day as we ramp up to New Year's and through to the restart of "life". To that end, before the season entirely slips away, I wanted to pass along this cute song and video that I recently became aware of.
Like most "current" things, it is actually at least 3 years old. The song is "You Make It Feel Like Christmas"; the singers are Gwen Stefani (with whom I have a passing knowledge of from her years with No Doubt) and Blake Shelton (who I have no knowledge of prior to this). Apparently they are now married, which makes the song and video a bit more fun.
Run time is 3:03. Watch it to the end.
It is not a bad way to exit the season. Would that we might all endeavor to make it feel like Christmas every day.
Yeah, less and less Christmas lights are left on in the evenings and the Christmas trees in the recycling bin are happening now. We've noticed less fireworks than normal during Christmas occurred. Not sure if the economy slowed down sales or are they saving it for New Year's Eve.
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation. The trees have started showing up on the sidewalk for pickup although the lights still seem to be on for the most part - although to your point, there were far less Christmas cards this year than years past.
DeleteNo fireworks at all here yet. I suspect we will hear a few today and then more tomorrow.
Fun video.
ReplyDeleteI really miss the 12 days of Christmas concept, where the holiday extends to Epiphany. It seems like we started losing that when folks began putting up Christmas decorations for Thanksgiving. And now the stores start selling Christmas themed items in September (way too early for it to "feel" like Christmas).
We had lots of Christmas lights around the area this year, but the day after Christmas, they stopped turning them on. I reckon by December 26th, folks are just tired of it.
Leigh, it really is a fun video. Makes me happy.
DeleteI think you may be on to something with the very early start of Christmas at Thanksgiving and the decline of the 12 days of Christmas - added to by the fact that vacations are now largely wedged between Christmas and New Year's instead of Christmas and Epiphany.
We still had (and have) a fair amount there. I have to admit I do enjoy the more tastefully done ones - although there are just as many "over the top', which are less pleasant.
Geeez TB, even I knew Shelton was country music and on TV's The Voice........... :) A snappy tune to open the day. The brief snowfall last evening already made it feel like Christmas again.
ReplyDeleteAh Nylon12, but you are a cosmopolitan man of the world.
DeleteIt is a snappy tune and makes me happy. Still another warm, non-Christmas day here.
Thanks for the chuckle TB!
DeleteYou are more thank welcome Nylon12. We can use all we can get these days.
DeleteWe usually leave our outside lights up until after the first of the year but due to the unseasonably warm day we had yesterday, I took them down early. It was nice to get it done and not be in the initial stages of hypothermia. The tree is also down but because we use real trees and normally cut them in the days after Thanksgiving, they are getting pretty dry and need to be removed before they spontaneously combust.
ReplyDeleteI live under a pop culture rock and even I know Blake Shelton, though I do admit, I didn't know he was married to Gwen. I also had never heard him sing though until this video though I knew he was a country singer.
Ed, it is a toss up as to how long we leave them up - to some extent like you, we typically leave them up until the first of the year, but depending on when I can get up to get them off, it can go almost a week afterwards.
DeleteApparently I live under a much deeper rock, as I had literally not heard of him.
Blake Shelton has a lot of good country songs. Not familiar with Gwen Stefani; but it's a nice duet so thanks for this, TB.
ReplyDeleteYou all be safe and God bless!
Apparently everyone knows at this except me. Who knew?
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the video, Linda.
Christmas is special, and at hour house, very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteJohn, here too. I have to admit the "not having to go anywhere and not being on a schedule" has a great deal of appeal to me.
