A Surprising Bit Of Good News

So my father encouraged my to write this post.

On Friday I had my monthly check-in with my boss:  how are things going, plans for the future, etc.  All went well.

At the end of the meeting, he handed me an envelope.  Salary adjustment based on the size of the company and change in the reporting structure.  It was a 52% raise.

You read that right.  52%.

I am, to be sure, blown away.  That is approximately 1/3 again the amount I was receiving prior to July 15th, my first day.  In total, this represents a 82% salary increase since I started my new position in 2016.

To say this is a game changer is trite.  This means a whole lot of things- debt reduction, college, even travel - have now changed in their ability to be accomplished.

I am often complaining - and curious - if this is where God really wants me.  Turns out at this time, He keeps saying yes, this is the place for now.

52%.  Never in my life could I have dreamed this would occur.

  1. Pbbbfffft! I am not surprised. A man of your intellect can and will write his own ticket if circumstances require it. Most employers are not smart enough to realize this, or are infested with managers that see talent and ability as a threat to their own positions. You are an exceptional man working for an exceptional boss.

Debt reduction first, TB. For me things went the opposite - I now work twice as hard for half the pay of my former job. I cannot tell you what a relief it is to be debt free. Put your good fortune to work for you! And congrats!!

  7. Wow. Thanks Glen. You make sound a lot better than I actually feel.

And yes. Debt reduction (along with updating the taxes) is primary. As you said, it will be such a relief.

  11. Hi Kymber! I am so glad that you posted again. I was getting a little worried.

Honestly, it was a bit of being in the right place at the right time, in the sense that our company has expanded is size from one bracket to a larger one and my salary was "priced in" at the smaller number of employees. Still - yes, I have never heard of this happening to anyone else I know either.

And yes - debt reduction is baked into the updated budget.

  13. You don't have to post this up, but I do think that nothing is random, that there is a Universal plan for all of us, and we can see this plan in action if we look back and see the way things fall into place. You could also say that this is God's plan. 'Universe' and 'God' are words which are interchangeable for me, they are mere words which represent that wonderful, loving, force which looks after us all, and in this instance, has brought this increase in finances your way. Look for your signposts which will point you in the right direction with your personal work, do not hurry this, but be patient and wait for the inspiration which is coming your way. Well done. You are on the right path. The increase in finances says that you are. It will give you the life raft you have needed to go forward. Use it wisely. I am sure that you will.
    Sending blessings to you.

As I say.....you can keep this comment private.

  14. What good news! To say I'm happy for you is an understatement. I think it's rare to find a company willing to invest in its employees rather than the investors and CEOs. Congratulations!

  15. Congratulations! So good to receive the recognition you deserve after all your hard work and time put in. Yes, debt reduction is a worthy goal. Wouldn't it be nice to be debt-free by the time retirement rolls around?

  16. Thanks Vera, for both of your comments. I do believe that nothing happens by chance, and this increase has come at a needed time - or at least needed from what I can see, but I am sure there are things I cannot see coming on as well that this will be helpful with (it is the unknown things that always worry me: the car that dies or appliance that perishes). But I look for the signposts as you suggest. I think there is a lot of wisdom to that.

  17. Thank you Leigh. This is a pretty special place to work right now. I do feel blessed - and yes, it is rather the exception.

  18. Thanks Songbird! I am feeling very fortunate in that this can really help to overcome some of the self-enforced errors of the Firm. And yes, I do think that debt free for retirement is something to aspire to (we may have to make some changes, but I suspect they would be worth it).
