A Few Words From...B.H.Liddell Hart

"Peaceful nations are apt, however, to court unnecessary danger, because when aroused they are more inclined to proceed to extremes than predatory nations.  For the latter, making war as a means of gain, are usually more ready to call it off when they find an opponent too strong to be easily overcome.  It is the reluctant fighter, impelled by emotion and not by calculation, who tends to press a fight to the bitter end.  Thereby he too often defeats his own end, even if he does not produce his own direct defeat.  For the spirit of barbarism can be weakened only during a cessation of hostilities; war strengthens it - pouring fuel on the flames." - Strategy

  1. You could almost apply this to the hordes of illegal aliens assaulting our borders, and the dems scooping them up and hurrying them in, to the destruction of America.

  2. Linda, I think Liddell-Hart's point is really about states that do not see the world as it really is e.g. that wars should not really be - but if they are, we are going to win at any cost. For me, it was helpful to think of the pacifist who is never really ready to have an opinion but when they go to war, they throw everything they have at it to the point that they will destroy themselves.

States never fail fully from the outside. It always starts on the inside.
