Iceland Day 2: South and East

Outside of Reykjavik, Iceland is a land of driving to reach places, get out and look, and then keep driving.  For day 2, The Ravishing Mrs. TB and Nighean Bhean had a day of photo shoots so myself and Nighean Dhonn headed south and east.

Iceland is a land of long silences and high mountain vistas.

The old lava flows are very flat - and covered in moss, sometimes up to 50 cm!

In the town of Skogar, we stopped at Skogafoss ("Foss" is Icelandic for waterfall.  And there are many of them).

Continuing to drive east.

That far off snowtop is really part of a glacier - Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe.

Edge of Vatnajokul National Park:

Reynesfjara - The Black Beach.  The sand is volcanic stone.  The thing that the pictures do not portray is how brutally cold it was - 35 F with a North Atlantic Wind!
