2025 Switzerland/Germany: German Countryside

Being as we were in the next town over, we did have to make about a 6 km/4 mile drive to the site.

It has been years since I have been to this part of the world.  I forgot how breathtakingly beautiful it is.

One of the few times gray skies were documented on your travels TB. That's a lot of vehicles packed close together.

    1. Nylon12 - We had surprisingly good weather for a February.

That is the parking lot for the plant I was visiting.

  2. I am familiar with the terrain of my country but when I look at another country's terrain, I could be looking at Mars for all practical purposes as it looks so foreign to my eyes.

    1. Ed, funny how similar things like mountains and valleys and trees can look completely alien in another landscape.

When I see the Alps I think about the Romans crossing them on foot and I wonder what a Mediterranean soldier thought seeing them for the first time.

    1. Kevin, that is a great thought and question. It makes me wonder they thought the first time they Britain or the British North or North Africa or Dacia or the Tigris. A Roman soldier could have seen a great many places in his lifetime - mostly, as you point out, on foot.

    2. Internet Archive has an audio recording of Germania by Publius Cornelius Tacitus. It's pretty interesting.

    3. They also have Agricola by the same author, which includes Britannia.

    4. Leigh, Tacitus is a great author and one of the most approachable Roman writers. He also wrote The Histories and The Annals of Imperial Rome, which I also highly recommend.

  4. I'm looking forward to this. I recently learned I have Prussian ancestors. So not where you visited, but Germanic just the same.

    1. Leigh, somewhat sadly this was the only day of pictures we got. We arrived on a Sunday and departed on a Tuesday.
