Photos really illustrate cultural and geographical differences TB, quite a bit of talent by various artisans shown there.
ReplyDeleteNylon12 - In tradition Islam as I understand it, the human form is not allowed in art - so artists found other ways to show off their talents.
DeleteThe more I see of art like this versus so much of what comes out of the modern world today, I realize how much we seem to be losing the concept and practice of beauty.
It's truly amazing how a peoples' culture is expressed through their art. The calligraphy is Arabic? Fascinatingly aesthetic. Are the turbans on the tombs particular to Turkey?
ReplyDeleteLeigh - The calligraphy is indeed Arabic. As human forms were forbidden in traditional Islamic Art, calligraphy was one of the arts developed to a very high degree.
DeleteI am not sure about the turbans on the tombs being unique to Turkey, but they are certainly unique in Turkey to this particular order.
