A Day At The Beach

In spite of my recent notes about the weather being cloudy and rainy here for the better part of a month, last week were blessed with a cloud and rain-free day.  Where should one go?  To the beach, of course!

Although the weather had a chill if you were in the shade, in the sun it was perfect - too perfect; I had to shed a layer or two.

True low tide was about three hours away, so no tide pools for us this time.

I have not been back to this beach since I moved in March of 2024, which is a shame.  I have not lived so close in 35 years.

I love this picture, although I have no idea how I took it other than dumb luck:

Wave patterns in sand:

The hazy mist at the coast is always a marvel to me:

Once again, to the victors go the spoils:  Albacore fish and chips and sourdough bread pudding.  Hazy IPA (The Ravishing Mrs. TB) and Nitro Brown Ale (your host).

We noted to ourselves that we should plan a return in Spring.  So awesomely beautiful.

  1. That beach looks very familiar. I'm assuming it was near Astoria? When we were in your neck of the woods a couple years back, we stopped there to relive my love of all things Goonies. It was a beautiful chunk of shoreline.

    1. Ed, as Wylie noted below, it is Cannon Beach. Haystack Rock, as I understand it, is in the movie.

      It is indeed beautiful.

    2. With the name provided by Wylie, I was able to find my post of that beautiful place.

    3. I vaguely remembered this post reading it (turned out I commented on it as well).

Sadly, the tide was only going out while we were there, so no tide pools this trip.

  2. What wonderful photos. The blue of the sky is amazing. So are those huge rocks sticking out of the ground. And the ripples in the sand. And lunch, lol.

    1. Thank you Leigh! I have to admit that pictures like these make me think that I should pay more attention to photography.

I know I kvetch about the weather here a fair amount. This was an anomaly of a day: no clouds at all and we almost got warm enough to shed not one but two layers.

Epic, TB, I nominate this the most tasteful beach in America!

    1. Thank you Anon! Although I do not know if is the most tasteful beach, it is a pretty good one. That said, there are more in this neck of the woods that I should visit.

Couple of those photos showing the rock formations at the beach got the Jaws theme running through my head, too early for that TB and then that meal photo.....before breakfast......aaarrgh!

I thought it was Face Rock in Bandon. Funny how the beaches & rocks all look similar here on the Oregon coast. Happy New Year!

    1. I could not pick out a coastline to save my soul, likely.

      Happy New Year as well!
