2025 Grand Canyon Thunder River (IV): Esplanade Sunset

Sunsets in the Grand Canyon:  There is nothing like them:

Imagine our surprise when we saw an object and a trail rising up in the sky!  Was this the end?  No, just a SpaceX launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

  1. Definitely the sunsets and moonrises were much different in the Grand Canyon than anywhere else I've been. With less atmosphere to block them and occurring generally much higher than horizon level, they were memorable. Perhaps more memorable though was when the moon was full when I was down in the canyon. I can only compare it to trying to sleep while someone shines a flashlight in your eyes.

    1. Ed, they really seem to be.

We had a partial to full moon during our visit with no clouds. Quite bright indeed.

Quite the series of photos TB, especially number four and five. Plus a bonus of man-made Sky Lights eh?

    1. Thank you Nylon12!

The SpaceX launch was quite the bonus. We saw one driving back to Old Home one Christmas so I thought that is what it might be, although there was one moment of "Well, looks like it is finally showtime".

If it were, there are worse places to go.

  3. The Space X launch is really neat. Actually, all of those photos would make for an excellent gift calendar.

    1. Thanks Leigh! Looking at a lot of these pictures, I was rather surprised by them: I usually do not consider myself a decent photographer.

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
