Sunrise as I type this TB, time to plant the flags along the street. Dad did that when I was growing up and I kept up the tradition during the thirty five years I've been at this address. Remember!
Whenever I went for a visit to their house, I would always see this picture framed up on a small table along with a folded American flag in a glass box and some medals in a shadow box. I never asked about those things and they never volunteered. Years later, I had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for a band related trip and one of the stops we made was to the Vietnam Wall Memorial. I took a wax crayon and a piece of paper and made a tracing of Richard's name on that wall. Back home, I gave it to his parents. When I saw the smiles followed by the silent tears, I learned the meaning of sacrifice. That moment will always stay with me.
Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!

Wow, Ed. Thanks for sharing - and thanks for taking the rubbing.
DeleteHe died the same month as my cousin did. Peace be upon their memories.
