During our trip to Kapadokya, we stopped a rest stop which had both a view and a lot of tourist shops. Such things are not, I suppose, uncommon in most tourist based countries. But the view from here was really spectacular.
A view of the town of Avanos.
For some reason the pigeons flocked here.
I do not recall the name of this mountain, but it was beautiful.
During my recent excursion to Greece, I saw several villages clinging to mountains like the one above. It always amazes me of the dedication of people to build in such an environment.
ReplyDeleteIt is stunning, Ed. But make some sense. People like to be together for protection and interaction. After a while, it becomes a habit - especially in Days of Yore, where isolation could make you an easy target.
DeleteMt Erciyes?
ReplyDeleteLooking from a picture on Wikipeida, you are correct (I think). Certainly it is in the right province.
DeleteGood framing on those long distance shots TB, especially that last one. Avanos residents get their exercise when they walk.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nylon12! This is with my smartphone; it mostly the phone and only a little bit of me.
DeleteThe general weight disparity between almost every Turk I saw and the typical American was rather pronounced for reasons like mode of tranport.
Sigh. "Transport..."
DeleteAvanos is an interesting looking place. Turkey truly has an amazing variety of landscapes.
ReplyDeleteLeigh, it really is. And this is just the Western half of the country. I would very much like to see the Eastern half.
