Or as been said by an unknown poet:
"I asked God for strength that I might achieve.
He was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked God for health that I might do great things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy.
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for -
but everything that I had hoped for...
Almost despite myself, I my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men a man most richly blessed."
"I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.

Sandi, I often reverse things myself.
DeleteEvery morning that I wake up I give thanks for that, like today even though there are warning of severe thunderstorms moving through in the next half-hour.....and there's the rain and thunder now.
ReplyDeleteNylon12, we are commanded to give thanks in all things. Sometimes that is easier than others, to be sure.
DeleteIt is a conundrum.... the first shall be last, the last, first. To be great is to be the servant. God's economy is a paradox for us. I can truly relate to " asked God for health that I might do great things.
ReplyDeleteI was given infirmity that I might do better things." He is good.
I know part of this really resonates with you, STxAR.
DeleteHe is indeed good.
"I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God."
ReplyDeleteThe moments I have truly grasped this, I have felt I found everything. Thanks for this post, TB.
Becki, occasionally I am led to post things that I have no clear idea why I am doing so. This sounds like one such post.
DeleteAll I can say is, "ain't that the truth!"
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Ed. My problem is what I think my desires are versus what they actually are.
