One of several ponds with fish in the aiport:
Their indoor airport carts had light bars that showed how long and wide the cart would be to passers by. Why is this not a common thing?
Pedal stations to power phone or laptop recharge:
There are also several different indoor gardens:
What an amazing place. I'm thinking the airport would be a "must see" on any visit to Singapore. Travel and flying can be stressful, but I think there is something exceptionally calming about flowing water. And flowers. (And butterflies).
ReplyDeleteLeigh, arguably the airport could be seen as a tourist attraction all on its own. I am pretty sure it beats any other trans-shipment options we had.
DeleteThe water and fish were my favorite.
Those light bars, clever! Now somebody needs to do the same with grocery carts at the supermarket. Good to see natural green amongst the manmade materials at that airport TB.
ReplyDeleteNylon12- Right? Such a simple idea once you see it and it immediately makes you think "Why has no-one does this with anything else?"
DeleteThe greenery is far above anything I have seen in any US airport for sure.
Good point about the gardens. You have this massively large, climate controlled, indoor space.... Sterile granite and stone tile, c'mon, can't you do better!? Leave it to the Vietnamese...
ReplyDeleteAnon - We really could do better if we wanted to (I say that - inevitably, in the US it would be on the taxpayers' dime somehow).
DeleteSlight correction - This is Singapore, not Vietnam. The Vietnamese airports, although newer, were much more of the sort of thing we see in the U.S.
To Nylon12's point, I have often dreamed of grocery carts that beep, much like a refrigerator with the door left open, until it is pushed to the side of an aisle and out of the way of those wishing to pass.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it would be in bad form to break out your fly rod in an airport.
Ed - Yet another brilliant idea that no-one seems to have actuated. Although I can see the beeping of some grocery carts just sitting there and their owner ignoring the sound.
DeleteGiven Singapore's reputation for rather strict laws, I suspect a fly rod would indeed be out of order.
Yes, move your cart over to the one spot where I'm buying a bag, can, whatever and a cart is there. Some people are nice and just hand you what you want and others, well, not everyone is having a good day.
