"Those who have never left home" are people I call "armchair advisers"...I've also been doing a lot of healing work on myself lately and have been trying to tap into my gut. I think that our instincts are the best advisers we can get.
Rain, I think that is wise advice. Often I can figure out how to do that which people tell me I need expertise to do - maybe not as well, but I can muddle through it.
