Leigh, it is a funny thing. Right after I posted this, I realized that my blog is pretty much run the same way. At least I am consistent about my life.
I have not shown this to any of my direct reports, but I suspect that, upon reading, they would 100% agree that this is me.
Nylon12 - The Original Muppet Show still has a happy place in my mind. I have realized over the years I am probably a combination of Kermit, Gonzo the Great, Fozzie Bear, and Animal.
When training people to do their job, for me one of the first rule is critical thinking. Seems simple, so I thought. In my area, files are for wanting money, training was critical because of possible fraud. After their initial hiring and training I would hand them a case file. Give me a decision. In the 60X I gave this only 4 passed. The file had presented with 4W2's . Not one was the same social security number. Red Lights Flashing - only four noticed. That four went to work for me and the rest were passed off to different department.
Anon, one of the unusual challenges (to me) of my current position is that I am came in to the position with people reporting to me that have years of experience - up to multiple decades - at my current employer. They have far more knowledge than I will ever have. In my case, it has been not so much hiring in the right people as it has been letting them do the things they already know how to do very well. I encourage, support, and run interference when needed.
That said, the sort of detail you enumerate is definitely required in our line of work as well.
Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
Well then TB, I think I'd probably fit right in.

I'm similar though I'm not sure I attract weirdos. But the first thought that comes to mind is that might be because I am the weirdo!
ReplyDeleteEd, you are a far more sane and measured individual than I - in fact, reading the commentary on your site, I feel I am probably the token werido...
DeleteAt what point do you run around throwing your arms up in the air and wildly waving them while shouting "YAAAAAY!".......asking for a friend TB......:)
