The Mists Of Autumn

 The Mists of Autumn
swirl among dying leaves
in morning silence.

  1. I think a Haiku has 5-7-5 syllables.

    1. Michael, I recounted and got 5-7-5. Maybe we are ellipsing different syllables?

    2. I'm having the same problem on the second line. Swirl=1, among =2, dying=2 and leaves=1 for a total of six. But I like it anyway and I'm not much for poetry rules!

We got three days of gusty winds along with three inches of rain so all our leaves came down and blew into the trees. Most of what is left are oaks and understory trees that were out of the wind.

    3. Ah, I see the problem Ed. I actually speak "swirling" as as a three syllabic word in real life, thus the issue (might be too much Old English at this point).

The rain has matted down the orange leaves into a carpet. I keep meaning to stop and take a picture of those as well, but I am always on my way to work (and is raining) when I go by.

Parts of this area got four inches of the white stuff Thursday, all gone now which means a race to pick up those leaves off the back lawn since there's a solid carpet of them there..........(sigh).

    1. Wow Nylon12! That was pretty much spot on for the end of October. And wet leaves are the worst too...

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
