One of the new advantages about New Home 2.0 is that we are now much closer to the coast - a little over an hour away. During out visit last week, we drove out to it. It was a fabulous day.
Back during my visit, we drove out to the park where the beach scenes in the movie Goonies was filmed. As I walked among the large rocks on the beach seeing various organisms attached to them, I realized that I had very little knowledge of the ocean life. All I could do is realize the beauty of the place.
Ed, I have minimal knowledge having lived farther inland in general than being close enough to get knowledge. That said, like you I can only appreciate the beauty of the place. The great part is that now we are much closer to it, so maybe we can learn a bit more.
Never turn your back on the sea. Sneaker waves wreak havoc. Growing up in West Texas, I never saw a lot of water all at once. Corpus Christi freaked me right out the first time I saw it. Galveston too. It's an unholy place for me to be. Others may, I cannot.
STxAR - I can see where it would be terrifying if one had not seen that kind of expanse of water. It certainly blows one's mind, especially if you realize that from the view looking West, it does not end until Asia.
Funny you say that, STxAR, because I actually consider the sea my church! I look at the ocean, as big and powerful as it is, and know God is infinitely bigger and more powerful! Then again, I grew up neat the sea, and served for 21 years ON IT in the Coast Guard.
Your advice is good though. What the sea wants, it takes. Always render it the respect it's due. It's not big on second chances!

Pete, the power of the sea really does demonstrate - like weather - that we humans are not the final word.
