I Cannot Teach Anyone Anything

  1. I'm going way out on a limb here, but I don't agree.
Even if the teaching is show-and-tell, the teaching is more grounded in the physical world than the philosophical world.

    1. John, to be fair to Socrates, I think there may be a little bit of "extreme here" - after all, we know that skills can be taught. What I think he was getting at is that some things - character traits or the ability for self reflection - can never be "taught" in the sense of truly being taken in involuntarily. We can "catch" math by being taught math. We can be remarkably resistant to the idea of self reflection or self improvement, unless we ourselves are willing to countenance it. To that extent, someone cannot "teach" us that, they can only make is think about it - and accept it as a valuable thing.

He never worked retail.... there's no hope for some people. They are just so set in their ways that they don't want to learn or understand. Just sayin' ;-)

    1. Hobo, it is shocking to me how powerful habit can become.

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
