April Streams

The rains of Winter
run between the grass-green hills
proclaiming Springtime.

Rain isn't exactly welcome around here these days, the St. Croix, Minnesota and Mississippi are days away from flood crest.

  2. Nor necessarily around here, Nylon12. Last Thursday we had 5 inches of rain in an hour, while 10 miles away there was nothing. What is left of my yard is a mess.

Odd how it feels like only last year we were talking about how the Mississippi was so low barge traffic might not be able to move forward, and now this.

  3. And a bit to the north and east of me, they were just talking about the impending floods headed their way on the river.

    1. Ed, Nylon12 said the same thing. Apparently being on my way out the door has changed my scope; this was the first I heard about it.

    2. They updated their forecast last night to say the peak will be this coming Monday at eight feet above flood level. I don't think that is a record by any means but the last time it was that high, it did break through their flood barriers and flooded a significant portion of downtown.

    3. Ed, I have in my memory levies flooding. It can be no pleasant thing at all.

    1. In some cooler nights,
      Springtime seems farther away:
      I need warm soil!

    1. Rain, I have really come to enjoy the sound of water on a hike. It makes a merry background as you hike along.
