Michael, one of Gene Logsdon's less well known books that I got to near the end of my reading of all his works was "A Sanctuary of Trees". If one thinks of everything that we can get from trees - habitat, food, building materials, energy for heating and cooking, forage for livestock - it is amazing that we spend so much time on anything else.
If spoken to a doctor, "Thanks for your patience!" might need just a squeak of clarification.
We are also using stored solar energy today in the form of fabric to end up very close to finishing the quilt project. Today should see the binding sewn onto the quilt, and after a final pressing, finished. And also some double checking of preparations as Friday night might see us drop into the single digits.
Yup, you make a good point - there are a multitude of grown things that - while we could grow more effectively and with less impact - are far better for the world than the artificial items we do use.
Good luck on the weather - we are back to warming temperatures and the cleanup.
And one we can actively grow, manage, and harvest with minimally intrusive environmental impact. If only there was such a thing like that - how amazing would that be?
Right Sarge? Trees - what will they not do? To Nylon12's point, if only there was this renewable resource we could build, heat, gather food, and improve our environment from - instead of making every attempt to artificially make things to do that.
Hope your spouse is doing alright back home! I've been thinking about you and her quite a bit these last couple days wondering how things are going. Hopefully she is one of the ones with electricity.
Thanks Ed! Overall they were fine, although they did lose power for almost 36 hours. Some branches down but thankfully we have no trees overshadowing the house, so the risk was low for that. A lot of clean up starting today though.
