Yes, I am often my own worst enemy. Pushing away from the table is the hardest muscle to exercise, especially when the food is delicious.

    1. Agreed - the only part that is harder than pushing away is dealing with the justification about why I "deserve" or "need" more.

  3. I've conquered a lot of desires over the years. But the funny thing is that when I have one licked, a new one always seems to take it's place. First it was stereo upgrades, then CD's, many other things in-between, then books ( still haven't completely licked that one), and as mentioned above, a fresh loaf of bread always makes me fall off the proverbial wagon.

    1. Ed, I treat it a lot like training for Iai: as soon as I address one thing, there is another. It is a continuous journey in which we never really arrive, we just continue to climb.

I will say that, looking at my life, food remains by far my biggest struggle.

  4. I remember a conversation about fat pastors with a denominations district rep.
    "Isn't gluttony a sin?" "Yes."
"So why do you not allow pastors to touch alcohol, but allow them to bloat into a pear shaped human?" "Uh, well...."
"Have you ever noticed when someone is repressing one thing, another pops to the top?" "Yes, I have....."
"What do you think these guys are repressing? What is it they have replaced with over eating??" "Uh..... lets change the subject....."

Food for thought...... hahahah... made myself snicker....

    1. STxAR, for years I have noticed the complete absence of sermons on the sin of gluttony as well as other less exciting/closer to home sins. Worshipping at the altar of entertainment or sports comes to mind...

    2. Okay, besides the invention of logic, and rhetoric, and influence of philosophy, biology, astronomy, and psychology, what did he ever do?

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
