Keep Me

Keep me in good means,
Keep me in good intent.

Keep me in good estate,
Better than I know to ask,
Better that I know to ask.

Shepherd me this day,
Relieve my distress...

Guard for me my speech,
Strengthen for me my love,
Illumine for me the stream.

Carmina Gadelica (Alexander Carmichael) from Celtic Devotions (Calvin Miller)

  1. Read this through once, and it did not make sense.
Read it through a second time, and still not making an impression
Read it through a third time, then a fourth, and then a fifth, and each time I did the words began creating their own understanding within me. It would seem that if used as a mantra then the words create their own power. Awesome.

  2. That works. Amen to that.

  3. Vera, I find that many of the old Celtic prayers are like that. Initially they are interesting because they are novel; it is only after I meditate on them I find them so subtly effective.

  4. Indeed Linda. Sometimes we need to be reminded that each day needs God's care, not just the big ones.

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
