Garlic 2017

Never in 17 years of gardening has garlic failed me. Not even once.

  1. Woot! That's quite a haul. I started some garlic that I got from a dear friend last year and it looks like it is quite hardy. Even with the snow. It seems to be growing everywhere I planted it.

When is the best time to harvest? Do you have to wait to just before they go to seed or ??? I've never grown it before and my friend passed away a couple months ago, so I have lost my source of local gardening lore.

    1. Thank you Hobo.

The rule of thumb I learned was when the stalks start to fall over it is time to pull them. I probably let them go longer than that, but I was concerned by some darkness on the stems by the bulbs and did not want to lose them. My biggest problem is that I can never seem to get decent sized heads.

  2. Looks good to me.
For me, the hard part is figuring how to store it in a house with no insulation. It is subject to the whims of the weather and the good Lord.
You all have a safe, blessed weekend!

    1. We just let it dry and put it in a dark place Linda. I do not know how correct that is, but it seems to work.

    1. Thank you Rain! Yes, in October - if I do not get them in by November it gets too wet and the days too short.

Comments are welcome (and necessary, for good conversation). If you could take the time to be kind and not practice profanity, it would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!
